How do you recognize an exceptional embroidery from one that is unflattering?
16/06/2018

People choose embroidery as a customization method because it is durable (and then brands are exposed non-stop, for long periods of time) and, in addition, it beautify textiles. But in order to enjoy the promotion of your embroidered message for years you have to consider a few things.

We like embroidered things. Maybe because they remind us of those handmade II (peasant shirts) or maybe because the embroidery is also tactile and so pleasant to the touch.

An embroidery can turn a trivial polo shirt into a work uniform that expresses professionalism. Also it can give personality to a classic hat and makes a voyage bag a spokesman, who spreads your message around the world.

But what is really amazing is that you can embroider, with the help of promotional specialists, the most interesting materials: from leaves, to paper and cardboard, wood or leather. An office bag thus acquires personality, a wallet, a pair of shoes, a menu, an agenda or a laptop case become luxury materials.

The embroidery can be made with classic threads or, for truly amazing results, with phosphorescence threads (which is charged with sunlight and shines in the dark), with metallic or silk threads.

People choose embroidery as a customization method, because it is durable (and then brands are exposed non-stop, for long periods of time) and, in addition, they beautify textiles. But in order to enjoy the promotion of your embroidered message for years you have to consider a few things.

Here's what to look for in order to distinguish an exceptional embroidery:

1. The quality of the thread

As there are textiles that fade at the first wash, so are some threads that lose their color and shine after a very short time. If you do not want your textiles to become a rainbow of colors in the washing machine, then don't try to save a penny when deciding on the embroidery.

Viscose, metallic thread, cotton, acrylic are all options that you can choose for threads used to embroider textiles. But each of them has a precise role: for embroidery that will touch the skin or that is created on thin and fine materials, viscose is the right choice, while cotton is used on thicker materials.

2. Number of stitches

Nothing says better that you tried to save some money, than some cheap promotional products with embroidery done with insufficient stitches. If you can see the material below the seams, then your embroidery has not been made properly. You have a good chance that it will break in the washing machine.

3. Deformation of the material

And that just means there is to much thread used for the embroidery. When the seams are too many, crowded, the thread is pulled hard when embroidered. So the textile end up all tighten and deformed. Who wants to wear a shirt that does not fit well on the body because of an embroidery?

4. Letters and figures

A good embroidery allows you to easily read even the small numbers and letters. If you use punctuation in your message, you should differentiate between an embroidered comma and a dot. The sewing lines for the letters should be straight, you should not see the stitching created to hold the embroidery together (the support) and you should not see large lines of jumps that allowed sewing machines to pass from one letter to another one.

5. The holes caused by machines

The embroidery machines can use different needles, depending on the type of material on which the embroidery is made. A needle that's too thick on a too thin material will leave visible holes in the material.

The promotional items you use in your campaigns will also be appreciated because of the way the customization is executed. If you want to get that WOW effect through embroidery, choose to sew your message on paper, silk or leather. Avoid large embroidery, in blocks, in the middle of the shirt or hats. Less is more even in embroidery: the sides of the hats, the cuffs and the collar of the shirts are some of the places where you can embroider your message.

It is always a good option to try something unexpected: metallic threads or threads that glow in the dark, gradual embroidery, where the colors easily change from darker to lighter shades are some of the ideas that transform a classic embroidery into a form of art.
